PROFESSIONAL TESTIMONIALS
Leon Fleisher
World renowned pianist, conductor and pedagogue, Peabody Conservatory
“Lisa is a highly accomplished pianist whose keen intelligence is readily apparent in her performances as well as in her choice of repertoire. Coupled to this native intelligence is her extensive musical education and experience; I can imagine few situations which she would not be well equipped to handle be it as teacher or performer.”
Leon Kirchner
composer, pianist, Pulitzer Prize winner, Walter Bigelow Rosen Professor of Music, Harvard University
“A former student of mine, Lisa is certainly, of the students I’ve had at Harvard, among the three or four most gifted it has been my privilege to teach. She is a pianist of extraordinary potential & has already in works performed, Schubert & Copland (e.g.) or Schoenberg & Brahms, given the most sensitive of performances. Clearly she has the ability to develop into one of the really interesting performers of her generation.”
Robert Hall Lewis
Professor of Music, Peabody Conservatory and Goucher College
“An artist of the highest rank, possessing an exceptional technique combined with keen musical intelligence, rare sensitivity and unusual interpretive powers. For contemporary music in particular, she holds her own with the finest performers anywhere.”
David Simpson
Principal cellist of Les Arts Florissants (Paris), Longtime member of the French contemporary music groups Ensemble 2e2m and TM+
"It was over fifty years ago that Lisa and I first played chamber music together, as part of Leon Kirchner’s chamber music seminar at Harvard. Working with her on Beethoven’s D major piano-cello Sonata with Kirchner’s coaching was an incredibly inspiring experience. College graduation and my moving to France to study cello with André Navarra and then as a permanent resident meant that our collaboration was interrupted for many years. About ten years ago we finally had the opportunity to continue where we had left off. The same Beethoven sonata, as if the forty years hiatus had not existed. Plus the Archduke trio, Chopin Sonata, and more.
"Lisa’s playing searches for the core, the essence of whatever she is working on. Reaching for meaning behind and between the notes. Asking questions, not taking tradition or habits for granted. Technical mastery, control of color and sound, it goes without saying. No superficial showing off. And a wonderful sense of playing together in chamber music without sacrificing her voice. So much more than an 'accompanist!"

"Lisa is one of the most outstanding piano accompanists I have ever worked with. Her artistry at the keyboard is remarkably versatile—able to retreat with subtle grace or shine with brilliance at a climax. Most importantly, she gives singers the confidence and freedom to express their innermost selves. In the art of vocal music, the piano accompanist is the singer’s closest partner, and Lisa truly represents the very finest of this art."
Arreon A. Harley-Emerson

"I had the honor and good fortune of studying piano with Dr. Lisa Weiss at Goucher College, where her superb musicianship, standard for excellence, and extraordinary teaching inspired me to hear and understand music in entirely new ways. Lisa is not only an excellent performer and teacher but also a true collaborator who goes far beyond the notes on the page, excavating the essence of a piece and revealing meaning that lives beyond notation. Since graduating, I have had the privilege of working with Lisa as a vocal artist while she served as pianist, and each collaboration has been both challenging and life-changing in the best way. The lessons I learned from her continue to inform my conducting every day, and I cannot recommend working with Lisa enough. I am deeply grateful for her artistry, insight, and the many ways she continues to shape my musical journey."

She is not only a world class pianist but also an expert in vocal repertoire. I really enjoyed working with her for my Carnegie debut concert in addition to concerts in Italy."
